Smoke Free Condos?

Granted, I live in a territory of Vermont where outsiders think we are tree hugging, Teva wearing, syrup loving, back-to-nature, crunchy granola, save the planet folk! Yes, we all love our Green Mountain State, what’s not to love?!  So when my real state developer friend sought my advice on a condominium project that would be 100% smoke free, I questioned what he might be smoking. Mountain weed perhaps?

The gall to think that while the real estate market is heading south, with the credit crunch and this darned "mental" recession (as one politician called it), he wants me to market our state’s first smoke free condo project.  Today’s market requires reaching all buyers, not eliminating 30% of them just because they smoke.

Then I thought about my circle of friends, young and old, straight and gay, meat lover and vegetarian.  One commonality: none of them smoke.  Some have never taken a single puff from a cigarette; some are the holier than thou now ex-smokers, they’re the worse!  If they had their way, they’d make the entire state of Vermont Smoke Free.

Perhaps my friend, Stu, is ahead of his time, or perhaps it is time.  Thirty four home owners all breathing the same smoke free air.  Others have done it throughout the U.S., check out the website, Smoke Free Living.  No doubt it’s tough to convert an existing condo project to smoke free, but new construction, now that’s another thing.

So this self-proclaimed condo expert is ready to embrace a bit more clean living, inside our home as well as in the fresh air!
